What is Eastgate Ward Community Association?

The Eastgate Ward Community Association was formed in the mid 1990’s (as St Edmundsbury Borough Council records show) to represent all those who live in the Eastgate ward in Bury St Edmunds, and is the successor to smaller local residents groups in the same area. By joining together, residents have been able to make their collective voice heard on all the issues which impact on their lives.

Membership is open to any residents who live in the Eastgate Ward which stretches from Hollow Road in the eastern suburbs to Cannon Street and Church Row in the town centre. You can check if you are in the Eastgate Ward on the following map.

Open meetings are held twice a year – usually in May (AGM) and November. In between an active and lively committee takes up issues with local councils and councilors. New recruits to the committee are always welcome as are suggestions and ideas as how to improve the area and the lives of the people who live here.

Our Councillors Borough, Suffolk & Town do a very good job representing our Ward, but they can only direct so much of their time to individual matters. This is where the EWCA is able to liaise with Councillors and follow up on issues that become involved and often complex. In unison with our Councillors, we are a voice that can ‘open doors’.
